About High light-efficiency:

Light efficiency is calculated by dividing the number of lumens of a light source by the total watts. A higher figure for the lumens per watt (lm/w) implies more efficiency, while a lower one means low efficiency.

Luminaires in any of the following categories are automatically classified as high efficacy: Pin-based linear fluorescent luminaires using electronic ballasts. Pin-based compact fluorescent luminaires using electronic ballasts. Pulse-start metal halide luminaires.

How is lighting efficiency measured?

Luminous efficacy refers to how well a light source produces visible light. A ‘lumen’ is the total amount of light emitted by a light source, and we measure the efficacy of light sources in terms of luminous output per watt, and wattage per square meter. This is also known as Illumination Power Density (IPD).

What is the typical efficiency of an LED?

While the energy conversion efficiency of incandescent lamps is between 10 and 20 percent, highly efficient LEDs currently achieve values between 40 and 50 percent. Nevertheless, 50 to 60 percent of the power is lost as heat.
